Career Path: Robert Mahoney is a journalist and press freedom advocate who has served as deputy executive director for the Committee to Protect Journalists since 2007. He joined CPJ in August 2005 as senior editor, and has since helped lead the organization through a period of expansion and various campaigns, including its Global Campaign Against Impunity and the creation of an Emergencies Response Team to address the growing safety needs of journalists.

Milestones: From the late 1970s to 2004, Mr. Mahoney served in various international posts for Reuters news agency, working as bureau chief in both Jerusalem and West and Central Africa, as chief correspondent in Germany, and as news editor of politics and general news for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
